American Occupational Therapy
The American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) is the national professional association. The American Occupational Therapy affairs of occupational therapy practitioners and students and improve the quality of occupational therapy services. AOTA’s major programs and activities are clearly toward assuring the quality of occupational services. AOTA strives to improve the quality of occupational therapy services throughout the United States. Current AOTA membership is approximately 36,000 occupational therapists, coadjutants and students worldwide.
Occupational therapists work in public schools, readjustment hospitals, mental health centers, nursing homes, physician’s offices, and home health agencies. Occupational therapists may work with victims of neurodegenerative disease such as multiple sclerosis, transverse myelitis, and Lou Gehrig’s disease. Occupational therapists play an important role in helping workers return to work following an injury or illness, including stress. Occupational therapists work in a variety of settings to help people overcome limitations and live independently. They will also support you and enable your carer to care for you.
